City Hall and Court Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day

KEMAH, TEXAS – In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, all Kemah City and Court offices will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026. Offices will reopen for regular business on Tuesday, January 20 at 7:30 a.m.

Trash collection services will not be affected and will continue on their regular schedule.

Residents needing non-emergency assistance during the closure may contact the Kemah Police Department at (281) 334-5414.

The City encourages the community to take time to honor and reflect on the life, leadership, and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Kemah Business Alliance Kickoff Draws Partners, Resources, and New Opportunities

On Monday, January 12, 2026, the City of Kemah hosted the Kemah Business Alliance Kickoff Meeting and Complimentary Resource Fair at the Kemah Community Center. The kickoff brought together local business owners, managers, and community partners for a focused morning of connection, information-sharing, and planning for the future.

The event introduced the Kemah Business Alliance (KBA) as a City-led initiative created to support, strengthen, and connect Kemah’s business community through improved communication, collaboration, and long-term economic growth.

Highlights of the kickoff event included:

• Presentation of the Kemah Business Alliance initiative

• Introduction to sector-based “pods” and masterminds

• Business networking with fellow owners and managers

• Opportunity to update business contact information to receive future updates

Following the meeting, attendees visited a complimentary resource fair featuring regional partners offering tools and services that support business growth and workforce needs.

City of Kemah Recognized as “We Hire Vets” Employer

Kemah, Texas — The City of Kemah has been recognized as a “We Hire Vets” employer through the Texas Workforce Commission, in partnership with the Texas Veterans Commission. The “We Hire Vets” Employer Recognition Program acknowledges Texas employers who demonstrate a commitment to hiring veterans and supporting workforce opportunities for those who have served.

The recognition reflects Kemah’s ongoing effort to recruit and retain qualified individuals who strengthen city operations and public service. Veterans bring valuable experience, leadership, and dedication that benefit municipal government and the community as a whole.

The Texas Workforce Commission and Texas Veterans Commission provided the recognition to the City in appreciation of its participation in the “We Hire Vets” program and its support of veteran employment.

City Offices and Court to Close for New Year's Holiday

KEMAH, Texas — City of Kemah offices and the Kemah Municipal Court will close at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in observance of the New Year holiday.

All City of Kemah offices and the Municipal Court will reopen for regular business hours (8 a.m. - noon) on Friday, January 2, 2026.

The Kemah Police Department urges residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly on New Year’s Eve. Everyone is encouraged to plan ahead, appoint a designated driver, or use a ride service such as Uber to ensure they get home safely. Taking a few extra steps can help keep the holiday safe for everyone on the road.

Residents who need assistance while City offices are closed are encouraged to contact the Kemah Police Department non-emergency number at (281) 334-5414.

Christmas Closure Schedule

City of Kemah and Kemah Municipal Court offices will be closed on Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, 2025, in observance of the Christmas holiday.

City offices will reopen on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., which are the City’s regular Friday business hours, and will resume normal business hours on Monday.

Emergency services will remain available throughout the holiday. For non-emergency assistance, residents may contact the Kemah Police Department at (281) 334-5414.

City of Kemah Announces Temporary Office Closure on December 17

Kemah, Texas — City of Kemah offices and the Kemah Municipal Court will be temporarily closed on Wednesday, December 17, from noon to 3 p.m., to allow employees to attend an Employee Appreciation Party. City services will resume immediately following the celebration. 

Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan accordingly. During the closure, 911 emergency services will remain available. For non-emergency assistance, the Kemah Police Department can be reached at (281) 334-5414.

Kick off the Holidays at ‘A Kemah Christmas’ Tree Lighting Celebration

Residents and visitors are invited to celebrate the season at the City of Kemah’s annual Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kemah Visitors Center Plaza, 604 Bradford Street, where holiday cheer, family fun, and the lighting of the City’s magnificent 30-foot Christmas tree will take center stage.

Themed “A Kemah Christmas,” the celebration embraces the community's coastal character with seaside-inspired colors and holiday charm. Visitors can look forward to seeing the Grinch and other holiday characters, along with Instagram-worthy photo spots throughout the plaza.

The Stewart Elementary Choir will perform classic Christmas carols, providing a warm, traditional soundtrack for the celebration.

Guests may enjoy complimentary hot cocoa and cookies, explore the Christmas Market featuring local vendors, and visit the exotic petting zoo where they can meet Winnie the kangaroo.

The City has received word that Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive with help from the Kemah Fire Department, just in time to join Mayor Collins as she leads the countdown and lights the tree.

In the spirit of giving, the Kemah Police Department will be accepting new and gently used bicycles, as well as new helmets, for its Blue Santa program. Donations may be brought to the event and dropped off at the designated KPD booth.  To ensure public safety, the City of Kemah Public Works Department and the Kemah Police Department will begin a partial closure of Bradford Street between Sixth and Seventh streets at 2:30 p.m. on the day of the event to allow lunchtime traffic to clear. The street will fully close to traffic at 3 p.m. and will reopen by 9 p.m. Businesses are encouraged to advise their employees and customers to park in the City lot across the street, which will be free all day.

City of Kemah Team Members Earn TMHRA Certification

City of Kemah team members Gerri Alfaro and LeAnna Kinser have earned the Texas Municipal Human Resources Association (TMHRA) Certified Professional designation.

This statewide certification, developed by the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ Training and Development Institute in partnership with TMHRA, recognizes municipal HR professionals who demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skill, and commitment to public service. The program provides comprehensive training in areas such as employment law, recruitment and retention, employee relations, performance management, and strategic workforce development.

“Gerri and Leanna’s dedication to professional growth reflects the values that make Kemah a strong and service-oriented city,” said City Administrator Cesar Garcia. “Their achievement demonstrates our City’s ongoing commitment to excellence and to the people who keep Kemah running smoothly every day.”

“Earning this certification takes time, focus, and a passion for doing things the right way,” Garcia added. 

The TMHRA Certified Professional designation requires participants to complete a rigorous curriculum and demonstrate proficiency in the essential competencies of municipal human resources management. The program is designed specifically for those serving in local government and emphasizes ethical practices, continuous learning, and leadership in public personnel administration.

In observance of Veterans Day, all Kemah City offices and the Kemah Municipal Court will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Regular business hours will resume on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.

The City of Kemah encourages residents and visitors to take time on this important day to honor and thank the brave men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.  The City extends special thanks and recognition to City employees and their family members who have served or are currently serving in the military. Their dedication and sacrifice continue to exemplify the values of service and community that make Kemah proud.

Kemah’s Trunk or Treat, Shop & Eat Rescheduled

Kemah’s Trunk or Treat, Shop & Eat Rescheduled to Thursday, October 30 Same time and location: 5:30–8:00 p.m., Lighthouse District City Parking Lot

The City of Kemah announced today that the Trunk or Treat, Shop & Eat event has been rescheduled from Saturday, October 25, to Thursday, October 30, 2025, due to the possibility of heavy rainfall on Saturday. The event will take place from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse District City Parking Lot (same location).

“Families look forward to Trunk or Treat every year,” said Mayor Robin Collins. “By moving it to Thursday, we’re aiming for better weather and the same safe, festive evening our community loves.”

Attendees can expect decorated trunks, treats for kids, family photo ops, and special shop-and-dine offerings from area merchants and restaurants. Costumes are encouraged.

Kemah’s Addams Family–Inspired Trunk or Treat, Shop & Eat Is Almost Here

Snap to it! The City of Kemah invites families, friends, and visitors to gather for a delightfully kooky evening at the annual Trunk or Treat, Shop and Eat event on Saturday, October 25, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the City Parking Lot, right in the heart of the Lighthouse District. Inspired by the timeless fun of The Addams Family, this year’s celebration promises candy, games, photo opportunities, a vendor market, and the Taste of Kemah, where local restaurants share some of their most popular treats.

Children are encouraged to come in costume and enjoy safe, family-friendly trick-or-treating from creatively decorated trunks hosted by local businesses, civic groups, and community members. Visitors can also check out the Kemah Boardwalk and dine locally throughout the evening as Kemah’s restaurants and attractions join in the Halloween festivities.

Mayor Robin Collins shared, “Trunk or Treat is one of our favorite community traditions. It’s a wonderful way for families to enjoy Halloween safely, support local businesses, and have fun together. Every year, we’re amazed by the creativity and community spirit that shines through.”

Kemah Municipal Court Offers Warrant Resolution Opportunity October 9–22

KEMAH, Texas – The City of Kemah Municipal Court is offering individuals with outstanding warrants the opportunity to resolve their cases without fear of arrest during a special Warrant Resolution Period from Thursday, October 9, 2025, through Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

To avoid the possibility of being arrested at home or at work, individuals are encouraged to appear in person at the Kemah Municipal Court during this designated period to resolve their cases directly with a Court Clerk.

Court Hours:

•    Monday – Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

•    Friday: 8:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Kemah PD Invites Community to Celebrate National Night Out 

Kemah, Texas — The Kemah Police Department will host its annual National Night Out on Monday, October 7, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse District City Parking Lot located at 604 Bradford St. (enter on 6th Street). This free, family-friendly event is part of a nationwide initiative designed to strengthen community relationships and foster partnerships among residents, law enforcement, and first responders.

National Night Out offers an opportunity for neighbors to come together in a positive setting, learn about public safety, and participate in a variety of fun activities.

Event highlights include:

•    Safety Information & Demos: Visit with officers and firefighters, learn practical tips for household safety, watch K9 Tyson demonstrate his skills, explore booths from local businesses and services, and take advantage of child safety fingerprinting.

•    Kids’ Corner: Enjoy a petting zoo, face painting, bounce house, “Touch a Truck – Emergency Vehicle Edition,” and photo opportunities with Police and Firefighters.

•    Food and Market: Hot dogs from T-Bone Toms, drinks and chips provided by Walmart Kemah, freshly popped popcorn, and a vendor market.

•    Resources: Information on disaster preparedness and registration opportunities for the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR).

Chief Garivey emphasized the importance of this annual event: “National Night Out is about building a stronger, safer Kemah by connecting residents with those who serve and protect them. We encourage everyone to join us for an evening of community, safety, and fun.”

On May 23, 2025, the Kemah Police Department applied for a grant from the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority (MVCPA) to combat catalytic converter theft. On July 18, 2025, representatives from the City of Kemah and the Kemah Police Department attended a statewide meeting to provide information and address questions regarding the funding. During this meeting, the Kemah Police Department presented sufficient evidence and data, which convinced the MVCPA committee to approve the funding request.

The City of Kemah sought approximately $66,051 to purchase additional License Plate Readers and a safety trailer. This equipment will assist the Kemah Police Department in combating automotive and catalytic converter theft, while also enhancing intelligence sharing with neighboring agencies. License Plate Readers play a crucial role in helping law enforcement solve various crimes. The Kemah Police Department and Chief Raymond Garivey are grateful for this opportunity made available to the City of Kemah.
