S.W.I.M. (Salt Water Independent Music) Week

Tuesday - Sunday, April 11 - 16, 2023

Music fans from around the state of Texas, as well as visitors from out of state, will converge on the City of Kemah to enjoy live music at two of the city’s most acclaimed venues. Nationally featured restaurants T Bone Tom’s, and Tookie’s Burgers will host S.W.I.M. Week, from Tuesday, April 11, through Sunday evening, April 16.

The event is presented by locally based Sail Away Promotions and is an officially recognized event by the Salt Water Independent Music group. The acronym S.W.I.M. is often used by the group for brevity, and to easily identify the affiliation. S.W.I.M. is a national organization that was formed in 2021 to support the efforts of independent musicians of all kinds, but with a lean towards “Trop-Rock”, and “Coastal Americana” music. The organization’s purpose is to further the connection between the independent musicians who create the content, and the fans throughout the country who support that original content. With help from generous sponsors such as the City of Kemah, and Del Papa Distributing, S.W.I.M. Week is able to bring nationally recognized artists to the event, without charge to the fans. The event is truly an example of “quality of life” investment.

In recent years, the City of Kemah has developed a state-wide, and even national reputation as a hot bed of live music. Local and regional musicians have plied their trade in Kemah since the 1980’s, enjoying the backdrop of Galveston Bay as inspiration for their muse. Recently, singer-songwriters who are associated with the S.W.I.M. organization nationally have found a home in Kemah while on tour. In fact, due largely to that migration, T Bone Tom’s has been nominated for “venue of the year” by the Trop-Rock music awards, presented annually in Key West, Florida.
